in toward marin county. but no slowing. live look at palo alto, shows you 101 as we face north on the right side past willow avenue, we hear also construction there but i don't see anything here in this shot and we don't see slowing so we should be easy drive through palo alto. >> thank you, mike. >> happening now, the search is on this morning for a bay area man after police say he took two children and just sailed away on a stolen boat. >> christie smith live in ala me do with what police are doing to try to track them down. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. i have to say this is really an out of the way location at the edge of the bay here in alameda but investigators say that on tuesday, a father came here where we are and stole a 40-foot boat and sailed away with his two small children, that they say he took from their mother's home in south san francisco. and that he could be heading to mexico. police say 43-year-old

christopher took the two children in a rental car, a white ford, to a harbor here where we are. this according to the contra costa times. the father had been to the harbor a couple of weeks before this with the kids and asking around about the possibility of buying a boat. there was a search on wednesday where it was believed that the boat was spotted. no luck in finding any of them. brooklyn was last seen wearing a white sleeveless dress with blue and green designs, devin was wearing a short sleeved sponge bob shirt and a diaper. the boat white hunter 41 with blue canvas called unleashed with the number hunfor 1366707. south san francisco police

consider them abducted and issued a warrant for the father's arrest. christie smith, "today in the bay." >> 4:34. another search this morning for a missing man from lafayette. brett olson disappeared during an inner tube trip down the sacramento river. his friends have launched a facebook page. it had close to 66,000 followers within 48 hours. twitter is also abuzz with people tweeting and retweeting the #find brett olson. there is also star power behind the tweets from howie mandel and friends say they are grateful for all of the publicity and hope the efforts pay off. >> two people dead in vallejo and police are looking for the suspects who shot them. police found the victims in a

home on agethey'reton street. they had been shot. neighbors saw two men running away from the scene moments after hearing the pops. no word on motive. >> the teen charged with vehicular manslaughter for the death of a father and daughter will be in court today. the 17-year-old is accused of hitting and killing the two as they were riding their bikes. prosecutors decided to charge the teen as a minor. nuri's family hoped he would be charged as an adult. >> we can tell you a third person has died from the hantavirus outbreak at yosemite national park prompting park officials to raise a warning about that disease. the recent victim a west virginia man who stayed in a tent cabin at a lodge and parked in the high country. seven more cases are linked to the tent cabins in curry village. authorities say as many as

there. starting to clear up. we'll look toward richmond where we do have a crew still going on. this is the east shore freeway away from the bay bridge up toward central avenue. that's the split where you head to the richmond bridge. we don't see slowing for east 80 or west for that matter. west 24, construction, we see your typical dip in speed as you come out of the caldecott, bottom of the screen 880 has construction crews north of the coliseum. our live look shows you an easy drive. light flow. past high street up through the construction zone. headlights plenty out of downtown oakland down to the san mateo bridge. we'll catch folks on 92 on the peninsula side, light flow westbound, your headlights, commute direction no problems toward 101. 92 will have a couple of lanes closed. but the bridge itself will remain open. that's from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 the next morning. >> thank you. this morning golden gate transit officials voting on a policy

today's focus as you suggest turns back to the u.s. economy with the monthly jobs report due out so just shy of 45 minutes from now. forecasts call for a month of modest growth in august with 125,000 new jobs added. but the unemployment rate is expected to hold at 8.3%. the jobless rate has been above 8% for 42 straight months. the dow jumped 244 points yesterday to 13,292, a new 4 1/2 year high and the nasdaq rose 66 to 3135. welcome back to the year 2000. a new retail war may be over layaway. walmart cut its lay away fees, sears and kmart claim to do one better. both will drop fees year-round and let shoppers put items on layaway. the recent moves are great for shoppers but warn people to remember they are still spending

back to our dry heat that we're used to. temperatures are going to be really nice. we're on the cusp of fall, summer and fall, that transitional period where it's nice. 78 degrees is the forecasted high in san jose today. san francisco, though, not too bad at 66. you can still sit on the beach, get a lot of sunshine in santa cruz at 71 degrees there. throughout tomorrow we're going to see clouds return. they will be thick likely causing flight delays tomorrow out of sfo. if you want the beach and got the day off today is going to be better as we head through wednesday, getting closer to fall, pleasant conditions thursday into friday next week. and as you can see, not a lot of change in terms of our temperatures as we head through the next seven days so getting more steady and more comfortable around here, not as sticky. back to you guys. >> thank you. looks good there. it's 4:49. in nearly two years after the deadly gas pipe line explosion in san bruno survivors say their struggles are far from over.

last night they did gather for a screening of a new documentary about the deadly day. a lot of the survivors sat tensely, sometimes wiping away tears as they watched trial by fire at the san mateo history museum. bob hensel believes watching the film helps him and others release some of the emotions they had bottled up >> probably bot people back and opened up memories and stuff but people are trying to suppress. and i kind of the i can face it head on. >> many victims of the blast say they are still dealing with insurance reimbursement and lawsuit against pg&e. >> calling it star studded hardly does justice to the lineup for tonight's stand up to cancer telethon. tonight's benefit at the shrine auditorium in los angeles. all four broadcast networks plus

>> welcome back everybody on this friday morning. i love to say friday morning. it feels like it's melodic. san jose, the dawn out there before the sun, a lot of lights out there. going to be a warm one. it's a good looking weekend ahead. >> this wasn't good looking video yesterday as we showed you brandon mccarthy, he is recovering this morning after emergency surgery. take a look. he was rushed to the hospital after he was hit in the head. by a line drive during wednesday's game. >> that pop. >> what i'm amazed he gets up and he walked away but you know, a ct scan showed he had an epidural hemorrhage and a skull fracture. really not surprising.

>> what's surprising he was conscious. >> he walked away. well, he was lying down for surgery to relieve some of the pressure he had in his skull. the a's say mccarthy is still in the hospital so we certainly wish him the best. >> absolutely. cannot be too safe with that brain. 4:55. mike on the roads for a friday jaunt to work. >> jaunt is a good word. looking to the south bay, traffic is moving smoothly. keep the horses off the road, that's a good note. smooth flow most of the northbound routes. we have this issue for southbound 85. from 101 down to 237, typical construction zone, you lose a couple of lanes. we don't see slowing. this evening we'll have a concert at shoreline so there will be congestion at the shoreline off ramp, between 85 and shoreline and moffett. lincoln park playing there. we're going to get a live look and see how things are shaping up across the golden gate

bridge. light volume but look, a beautiful clear view, the lights across the span. no problem as far as fog or visibility for the north bay. and a look across the bay, this is the bay bridge, smooth, a lot of headlights heading into the city. about 45 is the limit across through the "s" curve. 65 pretty much everywhere else in california. jon, back to you. >> when people go fast they are not supposed to go this fast. in texas between austin and san antonio, will have a speed limit of 85 miles per hour. they can step on the gas. so make it the highest speed limit in the country. the 41-mile stretch will open by november 11, texas and utah for the record they are the only states with speed limits on some highways that are 80 miles an hour or higher. >> we have it here sometimes but it's just not legal. >> exactly. >> here's a lesson on how i guess not to park your car. >> yeah. a woman in kentucky made a
